The Hidden Fortress (1954)
an epic movie directed by Akira Kurosawa, the guy who also brought you Rashomon (which I really never appreciated. I never really liked men fighting over a woman, who’s already married. The movie’s too dark) but with a lighter and more exciting vibe!
The movie started with two guys which apparently are peasants. Literally. These two peasants are probably one of the luckiest idiots I have ever seen in a movie. Drowned by greed, they would do anything for gold, but since they are stupid, it would always fail.
The setting of the movie was a war time for Japan. So expect the feel of the game Dynasty Warriors. Seriously. You definitely must watch the duel of two generals. And now I think, action films of before were more interesting since they basically don’t rely on CG and too many harnesses. It’s all about the manual control and realism, with a little trick of the eye. Also, wait for the horse chase. One of the best scenes and I presume, the hardest scene to shoot.
I gave this a 9/10. I need more of the story on why there was a war and what happened more to the Akizuki clan. LOL.

It’s a really good movie. Well, if silent films aren’t your thing, it would take quite some time for appreciation to lock in. The movie’s kinda slow paced. Probably, in those years, people had longer attention span, but it’s different now. It took me three sessions to actually finish the movie. LOL. I mean, I gave it a chance. It’s a classic. It could be improved since I really see many flaws and I tend to shout because it was too dramatic.
But then, this is an expressionist film. It’s good. The endings are always the best part.

Sharing the good stuff. I mean, if you can buy one, just buy the album. :D This album’s the best so far that I have researched upon the whole discography. Better than Mylo Xyloto, I’m afraid.
